When I shared
with a friend
my joy and excitement about coaching, she commented, "
it's the same as therapy".
Actually, it isn't. There is a big difference.
First, coaches are certified, and therapists are licenced.
Second, therapists manage mental illnesses and diagnoses; coaches do not.
Third, coaches meet with clients for shorter periods of time. Therapists work with clients for longer stretches.
Fourth, often, therapists are focused on the past and present, while coaches are mainly future-oriented.
The hallmark of coaching is that we see clients as whole and resourceful.
I hope this helps you to distinguish and find the proper support according to your needs.
